Hike Name: Mt Rose Summit /Galena Falls
Hike Leader: Michele & Craig Young
Hike Description: Drive to the Mt Rose Summit parking lot where the Mt Rose Trailhead / TRT begins. The trail starts with a gradual climb and winds along the hillside with views of the Tahoe Meadow, Chickadee Ridge and the Lake. At the saddle we will cross to the backside of Mt Tamarack and continue on a mildly rolling trail to the falls. From the falls take the trail to the right (not TRT) which heads up the canyon towards Mt Rose crossing a small stream. The trail winds steeply up until mile 3.6 to a plateau and trail junction. After the junction there are five large switch backs which lead to the backside of Mt Rose which is the last part of the trail to the summit. This section is quite steep.
Option 1 (Short Option): Head back the same trail from the Falls for a 4.6 mile round trip.
Option 2 (Medium Option): Continue on the trail to Mt Rose but turn around at the 3.6 mile trail junction for a total hike of 7.2 miles round trip with about half the full elevation gain.
Estimate Hike Time: 7 – 7.5 hours ; 10 miles; 2,425 elevation gain
